Whispering Pines
History
The Village was founded in 1959 and was the first to be incorporated by an act of the N.C. General Assembly in 1969. After studying with Donald Ross, Ellis Maples set out to design some of the top rated golf courses in North Carolina. Two of his designs can be found today in Whispering Pines. Considered to be two of Maples’ finest works, the Pines Course (formerly the East Course) and the River Course (formerly the West Course) are located in the Village of Whispering Pines.
Present
Today, the Village of Whispering Pines is approximately 3.7 square acres. Whispering Pines offers eight picture perfect lakes and three championship golf courses. The Village of Whispering offer two of the three championship 18 hole golf courses, a clubhouse with dining rooms and a bar, pro shops, tennis courts and a swimming pool.
Whispering Pines has some 2,900 residents. The median age is 63 but the population is spread out with 13.0% under the age of 18, 1.5% from 18 to 24, 13.9% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 46.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median income for a family is $66,587.
